THE SACRO MONTE OF CREA OF MONFERRATO

The Sacro Monte of Crea is situated on one of the highest hills of Monferrato, near Serralunga di Crea, in the Province of Alessandria.
The Sacro Monte winds along the slope leading to the Marian shrine, and from there proceeds along a path, in a forest of oaks and ash trees, winds between the roughness of a crumbly rocky ground until you get to the Paradise Chapel, mail at the top of the hill.
Like the other Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy, also to Crea is located in a large nature park: it is realized that evocative blend of landscape, art and historical memory, which is its interpretative figure.
The nineteenth-century intervention, replacement of chapels lost, reveal a statuesque easier with the exception of the Road to Calvary Chapel, where intervenes Leonardo Bistolfi with a composition of great emotional intensity.
The Sacred Mountains of Piedmont, along with those of Lombardy, have been entered in 2003 the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
